INVITE YOU TO A TECHNICAL PRESENTATION
CALIBRATION—WHY YOUR MHZ TO GHZ DESIGN PROJECT CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT
A Presentation by Mr Rusty Myers, Director of Engineering, Maury Microwave Corp, Ontario CA.
THURSDAY, January 31, 2013
At CALIFORNIA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY, RIVERSIDE
Yaeger Bldg , ROOM A111
SUMMARY: Whether you are an EE evaluating a wireless design, a medical imaging device, or an RF communication system for electrical transmission line fault location analysis, you need to know the accuracy of your measurements. This presentation will explore the world of calibration from MHz to GHz frequencies. It will give an introduction to general microwave theory, explain the need for Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), and describe how waveguide, coax, and stripline calibration measurements are made. It will describe TRL (Thru-Reflect-Line) and SOLT (Short-Open-Load-Thru) measurements. Other topics will include some of the common pitfalls and mistakes, including improper connector care and handling that can turn a planned calibration into an unexpected and less effective measurement system.
OUR SPEAKER: Rusty Myers is the Director of Engineering at Maury Microwave Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for managing hardware development and sustaining engineering teams as well as having an active role in manufacturing engineering and outsourcing strategies. Rusty and his engineering team have launched several new component products including a new line of Test Essentials Instrument Grade components that includes adapters and cables as well as other metrology grade components. His team has also launched several electromechanical tuner products, Device Characterization solutions that include noise receiver modules used in noise parameter measurements, and many complex on-wafer power, noise and s-parameter measurement system integrations.
Prior to joining Maury Microwave in 2003, Rusty spent nearly 15 years at Agilent Technologies (HP) in various capacities including R&D Engineer and Manufacturing Development Engineer. As an R&D Engineer, he was involved in VNA calibration kit design and electromechanical switch design. As a Manufacturing Development Engineer, he worked closely with the R&D team to launch several new switch products and was responsible for nearly all of the passive components, power sensor, and noise source production engineering.
Rusty received a BS in Electrical Engineering with Microwave specialization from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1988.
