Communication Aided Protection Schemes
The PES Chapter of the Foothill Section hosted a Cal Poly Pomona Presentation on “Communications Aided Protection Schemes”, note the information notice had circulated incorrectly titled “Computer Aided Protection Schemes” however those in attendance appreciated the nuanced convergence of the two technologies! Tribhuwan Choubey a technical specialist at SCE and and expert on cyber security issues provided a detailed view of the communications infrastructure that supports transmission level protective relaying. There were approximately 15 individuals in attendance including students, retirees, and seasoned professionals. There was active dialogue, with questions and answers to address all levels of knowledge in protective relaying. Those in attendance eagerly look forward to the upcoming Cal Poly Student PES sponsored May 2013 presentation on Synchrophasors to augment their understanding of the smart and secure technologies supporting our electrical power infrastructure.
