Abstract
Title: 5,000 + 5,000 by 2020 – The National Cybersecurity Sports Federation
Abstract: The National Science Foundation has funded a proposal to create The National Cybersecurity Sports Federation (NCSF). The primary objective of this proposal is to bring together the community of cybersecurity academic, industry and government leaders in cybersecurity competitions, to induce shared goals and values, and to create an umbrella organization for a national sport of cybersecurity. This project will enable middle schools, high schools, colleges and professionals to align cyber competitions with middle, secondary, and career/technical institutions, in sync with industry and government cybersecurity needs.
We believe under the leadership of the NCSF thousands for young people will follow a path that enables 5,000 hours of hands-on cybersecurity training before they attend college and 5,000 hours during college.
This talk will present the NCSF vision and discuss how the Cal Poly Team has been involved over the past few years, plus their Team results.
About the Speaker
Dan Manson, CISSP, is a Professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Dr. Manson teaches Information Systems Auditing, Internet Security and Computer Forensics in the College of Business Administration Computer Information Systems undergraduate and Master of Science in Information Systems Auditing programs. From September 2003 to March 2004 and January to December 2006, Dr. Manson served as the campus Information Security Officer for Cal Poly Pomona.
Dr. Manson led the effort for Cal Poly Pomona to be designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education in 2005 and again in 2008. Dr. Manson is in charge of the Western Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition and California Cyber Challenge as part of the United States Cyber Challenge.
Dan is Principal Investigator on a new NSF grant to create a National Cybersecurity Sports Federation. Dan has been co-Principal Investigator on three National Science Foundation grants to support workforce, curriculum and professional development in cyber security, including the current CyberWatch West NSF ATE Regional Center grant. Dan serves on the Academic Relations Committee for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and as President of the Southern California High Technology Crime Investigation Association.

Driving Directions to Cal Poly Pomona
From Los Angeles:
Take the 10 freeway EAST and exit at Kellogg Drive.
From Orange County:
Take the 57 freeway NORTH to Temple Avenue and exit north (left-hand turn) to the campus.
From The Inland Empire:
Take the 10 freeway WEST and exit at Kellogg Drive.
From the Pasadena area:
Take the 210 freeway EAST to 57 Freeway SOUTH. Exit on Temple Avenue and turn north (right-hand turn) to the campus.
Visitors may park in any student parking lot, with the exception of parking lots F-1, P, and the marked areas of lot B, which are reserved for on-campus residential community parking (residence halls and/or suites). In addition, the faculty/staff lots C, and J-1 & 2 are also available for student or visitor use after 5:30 p.m. Please note that all other faculty/staff lot require a faculty/staff permit at all times and are not available for student or visitor use.
Daily Visitor parking permit cost is $5.00 per day. You must purchase a parking permit from either the Parking Information booth located at the edge of Lot C or from one of the many self-serve booths located throughout campus. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors who park a vehicle on the campus at California State University, Pomona must purchase and display a permit. (Please note that parking rates are subject to change at any time with or without notice).
