IEEE Foothill Section, IEEE Foothill Section Photonics and Electron Devices Chapter, and the California Polytechnic University Pomona IEEE Students Branch invite you to a Technical Presentation
Topic: Fiber Optic Sensing Technology and Applications
Presenter: Dr Hao Zhao
Saturday, September 6, 2014
Cal Poly Pomona Campus, Bronco Student Center, Room TBA(URSA MINOR)
9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon
Abstract of this Presentation:
This presentation targets distributed Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based Fiber Optic Sensing (FOS) technology and its application in electric power, mining, petrochemical, smart city and infrastructures. The technology involved with fiber optic sensors in these applications will be discussed, and the achieved performances will be presented. The speaker has many years’ experience on entrepreneurship in the China market. If you have an interest in fiber optics technology and/ or entrepreneurship in China, please plan to attend this upcoming event and present your questions.
Biography of our Speaker:
Dr. Hao Zhao is the founder and CEO of Bandweaver Technologies. He started up the company in 2005 and now Bandweaver has become the leading fiber optic sensing company in China. He has received awards for his entrepreneurship over his past 10 years at Bandweaver, including the 2014 “Top 10 National High-tech Zone Entrepreneurs”, the 2013 “Zhejiang Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers “, the 2009 “Shanghai Top 10 Youth Entrepreneurs”. Bandweaver is the 2014 “Fast 100 Company in National High-tech Zones” and also recognized as “Shanghai Famous Brand” in 2013. Bandweaver fiber optic sensing systems have already been deployed in all the provinces in China, and also in Europe, New Zealand, Australia and Southeast Asia.
Dr. Zhao takes roles in corporate social responsibility initiatives and industrial activities. He served on Shanghai Ruan Yisan Heritage Foundation Council board, which is the major foundation for protecting Chinese Ancient Architecture. He is the president of Shanghai Fiber Optic Sensor Industry Alliance, and the vice president of Shanghai Pudong Optoelectronics Industry Association. He also serves on National Optics and Photonics Standardization Technical Committee. As a major writer, He joins multiple national standards drafting, including fiber optic sensing applications in fire detection, high-voltage cable monitoring and structural healthy monitoring. He owns 47 patents.
Dr. Zhao has worked for Corning Inc. and Solectron Corp. after his graduation from Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) in 1999 for his Ph.D. degree in optical communication. He also holds a bachelor degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and a master degree from Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and EMBA degree from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).
