We in IEEE Foothill Section have just received this report from our IEEE Southern Area Chair (and accomplished Program Manager) , Doug Askagard:
Today, recent UC Riverside graduate and former UC Riverside Student Branch President for 2014-2015 academic year Russell Perry was [finally] presented with the MGA Award — the Larry K. Wilson Regional Student Activities Award for 2015.
The purpose of this award is to recognize annually, in each Region of IEEE, the Student member most responsible for an extraordinary accomplishment associated with Student Activities. The value of a Student member who shows a pattern of dedication and ongoing service to a Student Branch/Student Branch Chapter is certainly recognized. The award is designed to reward a particular event, program, or product of IEEE Student Activities. It is sponsored by the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board.
I had the pleasure of being seated next to Russell Perry at a luncheon today where I had the additional pleasure of presenting the Larry K. Wilson Regional Student Activities Award for 2015 (an MGA Award) to him. This is a significant and very appropriate award for the past Chair of the IEEE UC Riverside Student Branch — the Student Branch won the Region 6 Southern Area Outstanding Large Student Branch Award for 2015. Russell was a perfect host for our Spring 2015 Southern Area Meeting that the university hosted in May 2015. He went out of his way to make certain everything went smoothly for our meeting there last spring – thank you again, Russell, for all your work on our behalf.
Russell was recently employed by Meggitt [safety systems] and is doing his first rotation stint in their “graduate program” with the company at their facility here in Simi Valley. Russell is continuing his activities within the IEEE, where he is a Associate for SPA-X student activities, working with Region 6 SPA-X Leader Ms Emily Chung from UCLA.
Once again, Congratulations Russell for the award in recognition of your Student Branch leadership at UC Riverside, and Thank You, Doug, for your perseverance in procuring this award to Russell.
