Model for a Successful STEM Career
On Tuesday, February 28th – IEEE members and Cal Poly Pomona students of all ages, grade levels, and majors attended the IEEE Foothills Section and the Leadership Excellence Aspiration Platform (LEAP) event of the year. The very first in a series of tech talks featured a former Google executive; and the second event welcomed our very own esteemed mentor, colleague, and friend, Senior technologist at NASA/ JPL & and founder of the Southern California LEAP organization Dr. Yutao He. IEEE Foothill Electron Devices, Circuit and System Society Chapter Chair (EDCAS) Dr. Jenny Yu, Cal Poly Pomona IEEE president Shawn Bahr, President of LEAP Joanna Sarkisian, and Officers Oliver Khachekian, Ymonne Tojzoy, Moises Graham, Simon Khan, Garlen Mousesian and Mario Halim supported the event.
From accolades to obstacles, Dr. He shared his insights on what it takes to be a professional in the industry. The main focus of the talk was geared towards answering the important questions that keep every audience awake at night, like what they need on their resume, what they should know by graduation, and how to live out their dream jobs. By the end of the night, the audiences were filled with hopes from Dr. He’s words of wisdom (and plenty of slices of delicious free pizza).
