To Quote their Mission Statement :The IEEE Student branch at CSUSB acts to form a fun and engaging experience for students, alumni, and the surrounding community to develop professionally. Our activities include class tutoring, technical skill workshops, presentations, and casual hangouts. In interacting with the CSUSB community, we explore exciting possibilities in our field and learn how IEEE contributes to the advancement of computing and engineering.
Starting from a small nucleus of IEEE student in 2014 and 2015, these students have developed a thriving student branch in the past academic year. Starting with a small nucleus of a handful of IEEE students, they have grown, have added members, and have become a well-recognized student organization on the CSUSB campus. Their activities are described below in each of the five areas that are the criteria for this AWARD. After reviewing these sections, you will see why we in the IEEE Foothill Section are pleased to nominate these students for the Small School Student Branch 2017 Award.
The five areas, that are specified in the requirements for this IEEE Award, are described in the following sections of this nomination:
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — STUDENT BRANCH PROJECTS /TUTORING
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — NON-TECHNICAL-PROGRAMS
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — ADDITIONAL-EDUCATIONAL-ACTIVITIES
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — FUN-SOCIAL EVENTS
- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — STUDENT BRANCH PROJECTS /TUTORING
One of the most important projects of this CSUSB Student Branch is to help their fellow students to learn the technical material and stay on their paths to graduation. Many other large universities in Region 6 have engineering and science graduate schools with in-depth activity in multiple areas. CSUSB does not. At an IEEE Foothill Section EXCOM meeting in early 2016, these CSUSB students were encouraged to form a small nucleus of active members, set up a list of meetings particular to their campus, and interact with the larger schools in the IEEE Foothill region. This they have done, with an external emphasis in robotics.
One of their principal in-house directed projects was to organize tutoring for the lower division students.
In the students words, ”The Student Branch provides tutoring for computer science and engineering courses. This benefits students academically and brings them into our space so they can learn more about us and our IEEE Student Branch events.”
Fall Quarter: Oct 03 – Dec 02, 2016 CSE Tutoring with Attendance: 51 unique attendees

- CSU SAN BERNARDINO — TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS
The CSUSB IEEE Student Branch has two active robotics projects: SportsBots (recreational soccer/sumo/tug-of-war robots), and Skyote (autonomous quadrotor helicopter). These robots are not used in formal intercollegiate competitions. These projects are ongoing all year. The emphasis is in getting the CSUSB student familiar with robotics via hands-on-technology
THE CSUSB Students have supported many technical presentation over the past year.
