On Oct 25, 2018, the Technical Talk titled “UAV Research and Education at Cal Poly Pomona” took place at Cal Poly Pomona. The talk was organized by Educational Activities Committee (IEEE Foothill), jointly with CPP IEEE Student Chapter and CPP Power and Energy Society Student Club. Dr. Subodh Bhandari, Professor of Cal Poly Pomona, presented research and educational work to increase the autonomy of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The work aims to improve technological maturation while reducing the cost and complexity of UAV for widespread applications. The topics being investigated include intelligent flight controls, sense and avoid, search and rescue, agriculture, command and control of multiple UAVs, multivehicle coordination, and 3-D mapping. The presenter also displayed some videos of the obtained results. About 25 attendees were present at the talk. Some attendees had conversations with Dr. Bhandari about the UAV lab and opportunities for students to participate in the UAV related activities.
