About the Venue
Toulouse is the capital city of the south western French department of Haute-Garonne, as well as of the Midi-Pyrénées region. It lies on the banks of the River Garonne. With 1,250,250 inhabitants the Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in France. It is the center of the European aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus, the Galileo positioning system, the SPOT satellite system and the Airbus Group.
The city also hosts the European headquarters of Intel and CNES’s Toulouse Space Centre (CST), the largest space center in Europe. Its world renowned university is one of the oldest in Europe and, with more than 103,000 students, is the fourth-largest university campus of France after Paris, Lyon and Lille, making it a fairly student dominated city. In fact, with three universities in the 2011 QS World University Rankings, Toulouse can certainly hold its own as a study abroad destination. The Université de Toulouse system, under which these three fall, is among the oldest in the world, with its roots traceable back to the 13th century. Its international airport places it an hour from Madrid, an hour and twenty minutes from London and an hour from Paris. |
