IEEE COMSOC CHAPTER OF IEEE FOOTHILL SECTION
NEW WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM GROWTH : WHAT IS NEW AS WE MOVE FROM THE 4G DEPLOYED SYSTEMS TO A 5G SYSTEM
Presentation will be given at DEVRY UNIVERSITY, POMONA
901 Corporate Center Drive
Pomona CA 91768
WEDNESDAY JUNE 27, 2018 6:30 pm To 9:00 pm
OUR PRESENTOR: Liangping Ma, PhD
IEEE Communication Society, San Diego Chapter Chair (2014-present)
IEEE Communication Society, Distinguished Lecturer (2017-2018)
Abstract for Our IEEE COMSOC Distinguished Lecturer Presentation:
We first give an overview of the fifth-generation (5G) cellular systems, and then focus on a few fundamental technologies that differentiate 5G from 4G, including channel coding, massive MIMO, hybrid beamforming, scalable numerology, and network function virtualization (NFV). The exposition emphasizes understanding of the concepts, mostly through easy-to-follow examples while giving pointers for in-depth study. We also briefly talk about the 3GPP standards status and commercial deployments.
Biography of our Speaker:
Liangping Ma is with InterDigital, Inc., a mobile technology company. His current research interests include 5G radio access networks, ultra-reliable and low-latency video communication, and cognitive radios. He led the research on Quality of Experience (QoE) based optimization for video streaming and interactive video communication. Prior to 2009, he was with San Diego Research Center and Argon ST (acquired by Boeing), where he led research on cognitive radios and wireless sensor networks and served as the principal investigators of two projects supported by the Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation. He is the co-inventor of more than 40 patents and the author/co-author of more than 50 journal and conference papers. He has been serving as the Chair of the San Diego Chapter of the IEEE Communication Society since 2014. He received his PhD from University of Delaware in 2004 and his B.S. degree from Wuhan University, China, in 1998. In June, 2017, Dr Ma presented a very welcome talk on “5G: Technologies and Standards” to our IEEE COMSOC Chapter.
