A COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP FOR ENGINEERS

Workshop to be held at the SC Edison Facility adjacent to Cal Poly Pomona, Located at
Pomona Innovation Village 3, Assembly Room, 3 Innovation Way, Pomona, CA 91768
ABOUT THIS COMMUNICATIONS WORKSHOP: The goal of the workshop is to impart an understanding to the participants of the importance of effective communication in the engineering profession. The workshop would cover the following topics.
• The components of communication
• The cost of miscommunication
• Breaking the communication barrier
• The art of conflict resolution
• The technique of negotiation
• Leading from the front
The workshop would also touch briefly components of communication as follows:
• Language (Verbal, Body language, Complexity)
• Speed (Delivery, Comprehension)
• Direction (One way, Two ways)
• Style
• Acknowledgement
ABOUT OUR PRESENTORS FOR THIS WORKSHOP:
Kathy Lazarus
Katherine Lazarus has over twenty years’ experience coaching, training, and consulting in the areas of interpersonal communication skills, career development, cross cultural effectiveness, customer service, and conflict resolution. She lived and worked in China, gaining personal experience of the challenges and rewards of living and working outside one’s home culture. She has designed English as a Second Language and Adapting to American Business Culture programs. These programs enhanced the productivity and effectiveness of individuals.
Katherine Lazarus earned Master’s Degree in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate Institute, in Teaching English as a Second Language (Adult Learning) from Boston University, and in International Public Policy from The University of Michigan. Her undergraduate work was in East Asian Civilizations and Chinese language at Harvard University.
Tribhuwan Choubey
Tribhuwan Choubey is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has Electrical Engineering degree from BHU, India; 36 years’ experience in system design, installation and testing in Steel, Aluminum and Power Sector. He specializes in Disturbance Analysis and Smart Grid Cyber Security applications. He is collaborating with NIST on cyber security architecture and requirements of SGIP; He has delivered various papers at IEEE and Engineering school forums on the topic of Disturbance Analysis, Cyber Security and protective systems applied in Electrical Transmission and Distribution systems. He is working with Southern California Edison in their Engineering Compliance and Quality group at Pomona, CA.
