The PES chapter planning meeting was held at IHOP on 16th July at IHOP at 7PM . Following was discussed>
1. Talks during the fall session – September – December 2014
1.1 Smart Grid EMC Standards Harmonization – NIST SGIP team identified gaps in US immunity testing standards for Smart Grid communications networking equipment. The issue covers protective relays and smart meter communications card. – probable date for the talk – Sept, 27th, 2014
1.2 An overview of substation engineering – Substation engineering is a complex but important component in any power system project, taking up new systems or upgrades to infrastructure. – probable talk – October/ November, 2014 timeframe
1.3 Role of communication in Power system – With the induction of new technologies in the area of power systems automation and smart grid adopting dynamically to fluctuating load demand, the role of communication has become critical. – Probable date for the talk – December, 2014
2. Industry visit – CalPoly student PES chapter is planning a visit to NRG on a tour to the solar farm in September, 2014. The details about the trip and invite would be available in near future on this page. Prof Gerald Herder is coordinating this trip.
3. PES representative to LA metro for the organizing committee for a PES conference in September – Jerry would be representing IEEE PES chapter in the LA Metro meetings.
4. Stimulate activities in PES chapter in the region – Promote collaboration between LA Metro PES chapter, CalPoly student PES chapter and Foothill PES chapter – To be taken up in the next planning meeting in September, 2014.
