IEEE PES Chapter Planning meeting was held at IHOP Upland on 4th August, 2015. The events for the calendar year 2015-2016 were discussed and a tentative schedule was charted out. The suggested topics are a mix of technical talks on Power system interconnection, coordination and stability issues, as well as environmental issues presented by geomagnetic issues caused by solar flares. These issues have been recognized as sensitive issues and there are host of standards issued for the industry to be compliant with. Apart from these topics there are also topics touching renewable applications and the student chapter presentation touches on the local engineering student body being not only aware of this but also doing something about this. Then there are issues related to robotics applications in the manufacturing industry and its current status, issues and suggested resolutions.
There has been a thought of bringing an awareness to the Inland Empire Area about the Smart Grid and its numerous applications. One of the application, which could be interesting to the local industry, consumers as well as the student body is the Home automation. A host of industry, consultants, consumers have a stake on this issue and it could be a positive theme for an upcoming IEEE PES Chapter local conference being planned around March of 2017.
The event calendar is provided as below.
