The IEEE R6 Graduation Stole is a way for IEEE R6 YP to complement the graduating students of IEEE. They chose one graduating student from each section/university, and for the Foothill Section, it was Diya Gangwar from Harvey Mudd College. She received an exclusive graduation stole and piece rubber ducks from IEEE.
Diya is a Computer Science graduate from Harvey Mudd College with a minor in Human-Centered Design and Economics. Over the past few years, she has become interested in machine learning systems, AI infrastructure, and embedded computing, and she said she enjoys exploring how intelligent systems can be built for real-world environments.
Some of her favorite courses at Harvey Mudd were Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Systems, and Human-Centered Design because they helped her think not only about building technology, but also about designing that is practical and useful for people.
She became an IEEE member because she wanted to be part of a larger community of engineers and researchers who are passionate about learning, innovation, and using technology to solve meaningful problems. She especially enjoyed the opportunity to connect with people across disciplines and at different stages of their careers.
It was Prof. Herder and Max Cherubin who handed her the stokes that we got from the YP R6 Student Activity Coordinator. (see photo below)
